General

FOST 17.00     Post-Graduate and Professional Programmes

Regulations for any of the postgraduate degree programmes shall appear in the special regulations of the department offering the programme. However, appropriate undergraduate degree or approved equivalent qualification shall be required. in addition, applications shall be submitted on the official university forms.

Department of Biology

 

B.Sc. Honours Programme in Conservation and Environmental Ecology

 

BIO 7.00          Programme Duration

 

BIO 7.01          The programme is of one-year duration combining course work and a research project.

BIO 8.00          Entrance Requirements

BIO 8.01          The programme is for applicants who have obtained a B.Sc. degree with a minimum 2(ii) and an average of at least C grade in Biology

Department of Chemistry


Chemistry Honours Programme:  

CHE 8.00        Entry Requirements: 

CHE 8.01         To enter the Honours Programme, prospective students must have completed and passed:

a)       The chemistry single major programme with a minimum of a second class second division-2(ii).

b)      The pure chemistry double major programme with a minimum of second class second division-2(ii) and an average of a C grade in chemistry courses taken in Year III and Year IV.

Department of Geography


GEO 8.01        The Department of Geography offers 2 graduate programmes in the field of Physical Geography.

i)          B.Sc Honours

ii)          M.Sc.

GEO 9.00        Objectives:

GEO 9.01        There are three main objectives to the programmes

i)          To further develop the intellectual ability, communication and technical skills of the individual

ii)          To increase understanding, awareness and insight of the issues and problems of the natural environment at global and regional scales and the role Physical Geography can play in their solution

iii)         To contribute to the stronger technical capacity Lesotho needs to achieve sustainable development by providing advanced training of potential personnel who can play a part in environmental development and protection.

GEO 10.00       Admission Requirements:

GEO 10.01   a)     The basic entry requirement for the B.Sc Honours Programme is a B.Sc degree from NUL (or equivalent) of at least a 2(ii) level with a minimum overall grade of C in Physical Geography courses taken in Year III and Year IV.

b)         In addition, to pursue the Meteorology and Hydrology subject components of the programme, a pass in the following Physics courses is required:

P222 Thermodynamics I

P245 Mathematical Physics I

GEO 10.02       The entry requirement for the M.Sc. programme is a B.Sc. Honours from NUL (or equivalent) of at least 2(i) level.

Department of Mathematics (and Computer Science)

 

MACS 9.00      B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics

MACS 10.00     Preamble:

MACS 10.01     A B.Sc Honours degree in Mathematics may be conferred upon a person who has:

a)       satisfied the requirements for admission into the programme of studies for this degree as specified by the Board of Post-Graduate Studies (PGS), and approved by Senate and

b)       attended thereafter the approved courses of study for a full year and

c)       passed the examinations and satisfied all other requirements prescribed for the said degree.

MACS 11.00     Admission Requirements:

MACS 11.01     The minimum requirement for admission into the B.Sc. Honours programme in Mathematics shall normally be a B.Sc. General Degree Second Class Second Division with a minimum average of C in Mathematics as a major subject. Students with equivalent qualifications from other Universities and/or academic institutions may be admitted into the B.Sc. Honours degree programme subject to the approval of the Board of Post-Graduate Studies.

 

MACS 17.00     Part-Time Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems (PGDIS)

MACS 18.00     Preamble:

 

MACS 18.01     Duration:

 

The Part-Time Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems (PGDIS) consists of 8 taught courses and a project making a total of 36 credit hours which must be completed within the period of 3 academic years.

MACS 19.01     Entrance Qualifications:

Entrance qualifications for a PGDIS programme shall be a Bachelor’s Degree of NUL or of any other university recognized by NUL Senate.

Department of Physics 
 

B.Sc Honours in Physics

PHY 7.00         Preamble:

PHY 7.01      In response to the ever growing academic and industrial needs for suitably qualified manpower in Lesotho and other countries in Southern Africa, the Physics and Electronics proposes to offer a one-year postgraduate study programme leading to the degree of B.Sc.(Hons.). As a forerunner to advanced research degrees of M.Sc. and Ph.D., the programme is designed to broaden the knowledge of first-degree holders and improve their problem-solving skills for careers in academic and industrial establishments.

PHY 8.00         Entry Requirements

PHY 8.01         The minimum qualification for entry into this programme is a B.Sc. II (ii) with a minimum average grade of C in years 3 and 4 of Physics.
