Chancellor and King
In terms of all applicable laws, His Majesty King Letsie III, as Head of State of Lesotho is the Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho. He has been in that position since 1996, after succeeding His Majesty King Moshoeshoe II who passed away that year.
King Letsie III is the proud alumnus of the National University of Lesotho having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law (B.A. Law) in 1994. He later acquired a Diploma in Legal Studies at Bristol University in the United Kingdom. His Majesty‚s passion for education is well documented throughout the country where he encourages and leads in many ventures within the University and in other educational institutions. Through his personal interventions many children in Lesotho have been supported to continue with their studies.
As President of the University Council, His Majesty has consistently given a sense of direction to the Council and his latest directives to the Council to invigorate the operations of the University and to ensure that the University introspects and doubles its efforts in curriculum review and adhere to good corporate governance are now focal activities of the 12th Council of the University.
