TŠEPO MOKUKU: B.Sc.Ed. (NUL), B.Ed. Hon., MSc. (Wits), Ph.D. (Rhodes)
Prof. Tšepo Mokuku is an Associate Professor in Science and Environmental Education. He holds MSc. in science education, from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Ph.D. in Education (Environmental Education) from Rhodes University, in South Africa. He has a deep understanding of the education system in Lesotho based on his teaching and research experience in local secondary schools, participation in curriculum development processes of the Ministry of Education & Training, and as teacher educator in science education for many years. His research focal areas, in which he has published widely, are Environmental and Sustainability Education, innovative teaching in STEM Education, as well as Epistemology and Curriculum.
Professor Mokuku is currently an active member of Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa (EEASA), which he has also served a Council member, International Network of Teacher Education Institutions associated with UNESCO Chair on Re-orienting Teacher Education to Address Sustainability and Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE). Locally, he is the co-founder and member of SAARSMTE-Lesotho Chapter and the Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE)-Lesotho (also known as Environmental and Sustainability Education Network of Lesotho-ESENeL), which is associated with United Nations University; he is currently the Chairperson on RCE-Lesotho.
The faculty of Education has Three Departments: the Department of Educational Foundations (EDF), Languages and Social Education Department (LASED) and the Department of Science Education (Science Ed). The Head of EDF is Dr Samuel Motlomelo and LASED is headed by Dr ‘Malimpho Seotsanyane while Science Ed is lead by Dr Makomosela Qhobela.
Special Education Service Unit
The Department of Educational Foundations (EDF) houses the Special Education Unit. This Unit renders services to all visually impaired students enrolled in the university.
