Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education comprises the following components:

Educational Foundations Department (EDF), which is responsible for offering foundations courses in Education for the Dip. Sc. Ed., Dip. Agric. Ed., B.Sc. Ed., B. Ed., P.G.D.E., M.Ed., and M.A. Ed. Programmes.

The department also offers M. Ed programme in Educational Management and Administration.

The main aim of the Department is to equip students with teaching profession principles, ethics and skills for better utilization of their talents and resources in organising subject content, teaching skills, and education control, in interpreting school activities and in both creation and application of educational resources, and to introduce students to the general area of foundations of education.

Languages and Social Education Department (LASED) is responsible for conducting specialized courses for the Dip. Ed. B. Ed., PGDE, M.A. Ed., Ph. D, and other programmes in: Curriculum Studies and teaching in Sesotho, English Language and Literature in English, for Teaching, Geography, History, Business Education, Development Studies and Religious Education.

Science Education Department (SCE) is responsible for conducting specialized courses for the Dip. Agric. Ed., B.Sc. Ed. and other programmes in the following curriculum areas: Biological Science, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture. Laboratory practice, basic science workshop skills, and the relationship between Mathematics, Science and society.

The Department also runs an induction programme unit for the professional development of the beginning Teachers in the Faculty (and other affiliated institutions). The centre for the Inservice Education of Mathematics and Science Teachers is also housed in the Science Education Department.

Faculty of Education Awards:

1. Moletsane and Sets’abi Award For best performance in Year IV Adult Education.

2. Sesotho Academy Award For best performance in Year IV Curriculum Studies in Sesotho.

3. South African High Commission Award For best performance in Education Foundations.

4. Paragon Lesotho Award For best performance in Faculty of Education.
