Special Regulations:
ESR. 1.00 The major courses are prescribed as a necessary concentration in a given programme of the Faculty.
ESR 1.01 Electives are intended to broaden students’ perspectives and buttress their major areas of concentration.
ESR 1.02 The degree programmes of the Faculty of Education normally have 108 as the minimum total number of credit hours required; the maximum being the total number of 144 credit hours.
ESR 1.03 A programme is a plan of study lasting over a specified period which leads to certificate, diploma or a degree in the Faculty of Education.
ESR 1.04 All education students are required to take and pass all prescribed core courses registered for purposes of the overall total of required credit hours in a given programme of the Faculty of Education.
ESR 1.05 In any case of application of the Special Regulations for a given programme, if an interpretation of the regulations is required, the Dean in consultation with the Heads of Departments of the Faculty of Education shall be the final arbiter. This procedure shall also be followed in granting exemptions.
ESR 1.06 Curriculum Studies, Educational Foundations, and Teaching Subjects, shall all be regarded as subjects, and each shall be considered as having a series of approved courses.
ESR 1.07 Year I is an integral part of the Faculty of Education degree programme.
Teaching Practice:
ESR 1.08 Teaching Practice is a joint task for the Faculty Departments. It belongs directly to the Faculty.
ESR 1.09 At least 7-8 weeks of the final semester is set aside for Teaching Practice.
ESR 1.10 Teaching Practice is normally a compulsory and credited requirement of every teaching programme, and all students are required to pass Teaching Practice.
Assessment:
ESR 1. 11 Examinations will be written at the end of every academic year or end of the course (in the case of semester Courses).
ESR 1.12 Students’ performance in each course and in each year shall be assessed on the basis of Overall Weighted Mean (OWM) of the required course work and a formal examination in the ratio of 50:50 (Continuous assessment to Final examination). For students to pass on aggregate, they should get at least an E (40%) in the examination or coursework.
ESR 1.13 Every student is required to pass all prescribed courses; by “pass” is meant getting at least 50% in each course.
ESR 1.14 In order to proceed from one year to the next, a student must normally:
a) Have an overall weighted average mark of at least fifty (50).
b) Have passed a sufficient number and combination of courses to follow the next year’s programme.
c) Not have to carry such a number of repeat courses as to take his/her total credit hour load beyond the permissible maximum. If condition (a) does not apply, and a student fails for the second time in the course of his/her studies shall be discontinued from the University.
ESR 1.15 The course results in a given programme shall be letter grades arrived at from percentage marks given in the general regulations of the University.
ESR 1.16 There shall be supplementary examinations in accordance with the general regulations of the University.
ESR 1.17 A student may be required to repeat a course(s) or a year.
