The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities – Assoc. Prof. Beatrice Ekanjume-Ilongo – is a holder of a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon. She has previously taught in the University of Yaounde 1 (2000 – 2003) as a Graduate Assistant and University of Burundi (2003 – June 2007) as a Lecturer.
Since July 2007, she has been teaching a broad range of linguistics courses in the English Department of the National University of Lesotho among which are Introduction to Linguistics, Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Advanced Grammar, Advanced Phonetics, Advanced Morphology, Translation and Interpreting, and Research Methodology.
Assoc. Prof. Ekanjume-Ilongo also has a high profile of postgraduate supervision, as she supervises Honours, Masters and PhD theses/dissertations.
She is a prolific scholar who has published several articles in accredited/refereed journals, and an author of three books. Her research interests include Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Sociolinguistics, African Linguistics, Error Analysis, Onomastics, Communication and Pragmatics.
In addition to the purely academic responsibilities mentioned above, Assoc. Prof. Ekanjume-Ilongo also has enough administrative experience, having served as the Head of English Department at the National University of Lesotho for six years, and being a member of several bodies within the University.
