As the Dean, I feel privileged and honoured to lead a faculty that plays such an important role in society. Social science is an academic discipline covering a wide range of curriculum. In its broadest sense social science is the study of society and the manner in which people behave and influence the world around them. It seeks to draw attention to problem areas and alternative courses of action within society itself. Social science provides vital information to government and policy makers, local authorities, non-governmental organisations and others.

About the Faculty of Social Sciences
The FSS is the largest faculty in the University. It has staff compliment of about 53 in different fields of social sciences. Its student population in 2016/2017 academic year was 2369 of which 62 are registered for postgraduate studies. The Faculty comprises of 5 academic departments, viz, Business Administration; Economics; Political & Administrative Studies; Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work; and Statistics & Demography. The Faculty offers sub-degree programmes, four-year degree programmes with possible combinations with other subjects and postgraduate programmes as reflected below.
