- Unit introduction
The National University of Lesotho has abundance of students who hold incredible talent and skills in twenty nine (29) sports disciplines and activities; there are seven hundred (700) students registered to play in formal/national league sports competitions; with a whole lot more of students being unable to make it to the NUL first teams participating in campus (faculty; house and mini league) competitions. These competitions are very competitive, popular, exciting and refreshing for students involved.
The Sports, culture and recreation unit provides students with emotional and physical support, provide coaching services aiding them with skills to develop motivation and personal goals through sports. The unit assists students to also build strong personality, resilience, social network and development of mature transition into adulthood.
1.2 Job summary:
Under supervision and guidance of the Student Welfare Officer – Sports; the job of Sports Officer entails management of the day to day students sporting activities such as provision of sports, recreation and extramural activities and events based on student-centered approach that encourages academic and personal success/development. The Sports Officer shall provide technical and psychosocial support to students in sports to realize their talents. The officer will also organize all sporting activities locally, regionally and internationally, as well as administration and monitoring of sports equipment.
2.0 Qualifications and Requirements:
2.1. Education: BA/BSc Degree in Sport Science/ Sports Science with Psychology/ Sports Psychology/Sports Management.
2.2. Work Experience: Two years of practice in working directly with any sporting code in any organisation.
2.3. Experience in sports working directly with students in tertiary institution will be an added advantage.
- Responsibilities and Duties
3.1 Key responsibilities
Under the supervision and leadership of the Student Welfare Officer – Sports, the key responsibilities of the Sport Officer will be:
- To coordinate and schedule sports and recreational events.
- To supervising all campus sports; recreational programs and services.
- To develop and facilitate sports, culture and recreational programs and services for the diverse student body.
- To develop and implement sports and recreational events.
- To promote greater involvement of students in sports and recreational activities.
- To conduct sports and recreational activities for students organizations and campus community.
- To prepare flyers; advertisements and brochures for the promotion of sports.
- To coach and train sports disciplines.
- To keep accurate inventory of sports equipment.
- To arrange community outreach programs through sports and recreational activities.

4.1 Knowledge and skills
- Ability to coach and train sporting disciplines
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Organizing; Supervision and Leadership skills
- In-depth knowledge of current trends in sports
- Coaching and sporting discipline(s)
- Coaching and training experience
- Planning and organizing sports and recreational events and activities

5.0 Remuneration
The University offers competitive salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
6.0 Employment Type
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and two Years’ Contract for Non-Locals
