His Majesty King Letsie III inaugurates the 15th NUL Council
In a momentous ceremony held on 29 June, 2023, His Majesty King Letsie III and Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho, graced the inauguration of the 15th Council of the National University of Lesotho.
The ceremony took place at the Roma campus in the Senate Room 601. Distinguished guests, including government officials, University management, faculty members, and students (represented by their Student Representative Council President and the Secretary) gathered to witness the auspicious occasion.
In his capacity as the NUL Chancellor and President of the Council, His Majesty King Letsie III expressed his profound appreciation for the National University of Lesotho’s enduring commitment to fostering knowledge and empowering the nation’s youth. He highlighted the crucial role of education in addressing the challenges facing Lesotho and emphasized the need for collaboration between the university and the government to drive sustainable progress.
Following the King’s address, the new members of the 15th NUL Council were inaugurated. The council, comprising esteemed individuals from various backgrounds, including academia, business, and public service, will guide the university’s strategic direction, ensuring its continued growth and relevance.
In his inaugural speech, the Chairman of the newly-inaugurated 15th NUL Council, Dr. Khabele Matlosa who is a renowned academic and advocate for education, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the university and contribute to its advancement. He outlined his vision to enhance academic programs, promote research and innovation, and strengthen partnerships with local and international institutions.
He expressed his gratitude to the members for electing and trusting in him. He emphasized that there is so much that needs to be done and that they would be able to uplift the University if they work as a collective when making Council decisions, under the guidance of His Majesty and Chancellor.

The inauguration ceremony also provided a platform to celebrate the achievements of the NUL staff and students.
