National University of Lesotho and the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECoL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize partnership for Quality Assurance of the Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) examinations.
The signing ceremony was held on 20th December, 2022 at the NUL, Roma campus. Based on the principles of professional cooperation and reciprocity of benefits, the MoU seeks to develop a working relationship between the two parties whereby NUL will monitor all examinations processes related to the LGCSE to ensure compliance to its standards and to ensure that LGCSE is credible both locally and internationally. ECoL will produce its assessment frameworks and assessment material and NUL will quality assure their timely completion and promote the credibility of examinations in the examination centres/schools.
The MoU further stipulates that NUL will support ECoL in the development of assessment tools and to assess ECoL’s processes related to assessments. Thus, NUL shall, among others, establish a quality assurance unit that will be charged with the mandate to ensure that all ECoL examinations processes are valid, accurate, credible and timely executed.
The Examinations Council of Lesotho is a non-profit organization which is responsible for conducting school-level assessments on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training. The event was blessed with the presence of the Minister of Education and Training, and it was the minister’s first public assignment at the NUL since his appointment as Minister in the current national government.
