Mr. Matli Robert Toti
Mr. Toti is a qualified and experienced teacher who holds Masters of Education in Psychology of Education acquired from the University of the Free State and he is a PhD candidate with the University of Delhi India. Mr. Toti began his teaching career in 1994 as a teacher at St. Peters Secondary School and later at Khukhune High School. In 2002, he joined Joy to the World High school as Acting Head of Department. In 2010, he was appointed as Head of Academic and Acting Deputy Principal in the same school. In 2012, he was appointed as substantive Deputy Principal and Head of Academic at Phuthiatsana High School where he served until 2017 when he left to further his studies at the University of Delhi, in India.
Mr. Toti is a skilled reader in Psychology of Education with a background in the understanding of individual learning. He can examine how people learn in a variety of settings to identify approaches and strategies to make learning more effective. Moreover, he has a strong background in undertaking research, directing all faces of school operations including curriculum development, teacher recruitment and mentoring, budgeting, goal setting, parent and student relationship management and reform initiatives. Furthermore, he possess a strong ability to balance meeting academic standards and requirements with innovative flexibility. More importantly, he possesses outstanding communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
His contribution in the field of education has been demonstrated in several research outputs. He managed to work with dedication on his M.ED. Thesis entitled, Teacher’s Fidelity in Implementing the Life Skills Education in Lesotho Secondary Schools. As a result, he obtained the Dean’ Medal for his outstanding research, thus proving his capacity to undertake research at any given time. For his Ph.D. studies, Mr Toti’ thesis addressed a gap in knowledge regarding the engagement of learners with visual impairment, titled, Engagement of Learners with Visual Impairment in the Inclusive School of Lesotho: A Descriptive Phenomenology Approach. I joined NULIS in 2010. I am a true Nulisian with a passion for teaching! I have a vast experience in teaching the Cambridge curriculum. I have attended numerous workshops and training on effective teaching of IGCSE, AS and A levels.
My Educational Philosophy is to support all learners towards academic success. I believe that; as a teacher, I have an opportunity to guide and encourage learners to achieve their full potential. Vision
I understand that Communication is a key concept of effective leadership, so I will focus on listening to a feedback and fostering honest communication between my sectional members. My vision is to see the NULIS upper primary section as the best in toiling towards achievement of academic excellence and positive action. I am also willing to see this section as the best to internationally represent our country at Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Examinations.
Teaching experience
I teach Mathematics and Science in the NULIS Upper Primary Section. I also serve as a part time lecturer at National University of Lesotho in the faculty of Education – Educational Foundations department, lecturing Post Graduate Diploma in Education program (Educational evaluation and measurement). My teaching career started in 1999 as a lay private teacher at Thornhill English Medium where I was assigned to teach modern and additional Mathematics in Form A to Form C. I later taught at Koali Primary school as a senior teacher for 14 years (from 2004 to 2017).
